Embellished clutches and beautifully patterned scarves are the signature styles at accessories brand Micky London. Watching RuPaul’s Drag Race at Bob Mackie NYC

Earlier in the week, Bob Mackie returned to RuPaul’s Drag Race as a guest judge and I headed out to the Bob Mackie offices for a viewing of the episode. Admittedly, I hadn’t seen the show in some time.

I don’t know why I ever stopped watching. I had forgotten how much fun the show is. Great food, great friends, a few bottles of sparkling wine… [Read more...]

S.I.L.K. Fall 2013 Press Preview | Fashion

Designed by Michele Lee, S.I.L.K. is a contemporary women’s fashion brand that makes liberal use of silk and silk-based fabrics. Fall 2013 is S.I.L.K.’s second collection, ladylike and elegant with a fun color story and bold patterns. I spotted some beautiful faux leather interspersed between the soft silk pieces, including a rich-looking gold dress. Unfortunately my only photo of it is a partial here on Instagram. The faux leather is the nicest I have ever seen or felt.

I was also taken with the trench coats, particularly the ones done in floral fabrics. No surprise about the coats, but I don’t usually see myself in florals. These patterns happen to be particularly well done, and of course it helps when they’re combined with gorgeous fabrics.

S.I.L.K. is currently carried in select boutiques across the U.S. and retails for between $200 – $600.

Monika Chiang F/W 2013 | New York Fashion Week

I walked into Monika Chiang expecting a collection with a unique edgy/preppy twist, but I what I got was even better. The hair and makeup were obvious nods at 80s glam rock, and overall there was a luxe, elegant 70s and 80s vibe carried throughout the collection. [Read more...]

STEWART/STAND Spring 2013 Minimalist Accessories

Last week I had the opportunity to stop by NYIGF and meet Paul Stewart-Stand, designer of the STEWART/STAND stainless steel accessories line. Originally a minimalist men’s accessory line, STEWART/STAND has recently begun producing women’s clutches and zip wallets.

STEWART/STAND’s signature material is industrial grade stainless steel fabric, which has a sharp, futuristic look but is surprisingly soft, lightweight and pliable. Eco-friendly and sustainable, most STEWART/STAND accessories are made with at least 85% recycled materials. The stainless steel accessories also come with the benefit of securing personal information stored in radio-frequency identification chips. Near field communication tap-and-go credit cards use RFID technology to store personal data, as well as all U.S. passports issued from August 2007 onwards– including mine, issued in early 2008.
