Gasparilla Pirate Festival

Gasparilla Pirate Festival

Gasparilla Pirate Festival is an annual event in which pirates invade Tampa and then parade through the city. Most pirates ride on elaborate floats and throw beads to the spectators that yell the loudest. Tons of people dress up like pirates for the festival, which is pretty much the equivalent of a giant street party. I wish there was a pirate festival in New York!

Independence Day Weekend Photo Diary

fashion blogger in anthropologie tropicalia maxi dress

Dear Laura,

I hope you had a nice weekend! Usually I leave the city for other pastures, this year a tiny beach town.

I wore my crazy maxi dress on July 4th because the pattern actually reminds me of fireworks. What do you think? Festive? I usually wear blue and white on Independence Day along with my brightest red lipstick. It was both hot and extremely windy on the 4th, so this is my only halfway decent photo. Tiny Beach Town Photo Diary | Coastal Lifestyle

beach sunset with a beautiful mess app
Dear Mia,

You may (of course) recognize this photo as one lately from Instagram that’s been put through the A Beautiful Mess app. Among the great benefits of the coast are the sunsets… and the storm clouds to keep them interesting. Bronx Academy of Letters Benefit 2013 | Events

A whiskey-based cocktail made by Please Don’t Tell at the Bronx Letters 10th Anniversary Benefit.

If you can attend only one charity event throughout the entire year (and are also prepared to eat a lot of meat), you should make it the Bronx Academy of Letters Benefit. Tickets aren’t inexpensive, but the range of good food from so many good restaurants is staggering.

The benefit got me eating things I don’t even like, and taking chances on others. I ate roe, and I haven’t touched it since I left Japan in 2008. I gobbled down most of a piece of pizza from Roberta’s… and I’m lactose intolerant. Interestingly I was fine, meaning their mozzarella is made seriously right. Wasn’t about to try my luck with any of the dishes made with ricotta, though.

Mexico Wedding Photo Diary Part Two

A side trip to Tulum involving Mayan ruins and aquamarine ocean that must be part of some secret blanket Photoshop program that affects everyone within a mile of the coast. Clearly no water can actually be that color.
